The area of Indonesia is 1,904,569 sq km. The country is located on 13667 6044 of which are named and 931 are inhabited. Indonesia extends 5110 from west to east and 1888 from north to south. The highest peak is mount Puncak Jaya on New Guinea (5029 m). The highest peak of Java is Semeru volcano which is 3676 m high. The largest island (Kalimantan) is the third largest in the world. The largest river Kapuas (1010 km long) is on Kalimantan. The largest lake Toba (1,3 sq km) is located on Sumatra island. The east coast of Sumatra is the world largest water-logged lowland formed by alluvial rivers. Its length is about 1500 km and the maximum width is 250 km. There are over 500 volcanoes on the archipelago, 80 of which are active. Over 60% of the country’s territory is covered with rainforest. There grow more than 2000 species of trees (among them there are about 300 species of palm trees), more than 24 thousand species of flowering plants. The mean average temperature reaches +26 Centigrade. The difference between the longest and the shortest days is 48 minutes..
