The signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Kunstkamera Museum and the National Museums of Kenya and the donation of the exhibition project "In the mirrors of time (Kenya photo collection by Gerhard Lindblom)"

On November 16, 2010 in Nairobi, within the framework of the visit of Mr Sergey Lavrov, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, to the Republic of Kenya, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Peter the Great Museum of Anthropology and Ethnography (Kunstkamera) of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the National Museums of Kenya. Prof. Efim Rezvan, Kunstkamera Deputy Director, and Dr. Idle Omar Farah, the Director General of the National Museums of Kenya, signed the documents in the presence of the heads of the foreign offices of both countries. The Memorandum makes provision for a broad scientific cooperation between the two institutions.

One the same day, the solemn ceremony of the donation to the National Museums of Kenya of the exhibition project "In the mirrors of time (Kenya photo collection by Gerhard Lindblom)" took place in presence of Mr Sergey Lavrov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Prof. George Saitoti, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Republic of Kenya, Mr William Ole Ntimama, the Minister of State for National Heritage and Culture, Mr Viktor Petrakov, Head of the Federal Surveillance Service for Compliance with the Law in Cultural Heritage Protection (Rosokhankultura) and Mr Valeriy Egoshkin, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation in Kenya. The exhibition (author Efim Rezvan, design by Larisa Jebrovskaya) was produced to mark the centenary of the foundation of the National Museums of Kenya, and was made possible through the good offices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.

The scholarly catalogue of the photo collection of the Swedish ethnologist, bought by the Kunstkamera Museum in 1913, was published in Russian and English within the framework of the project. The opening of the exhibition in Nairobi National Museum will take place on December 7, 2010. Kunstkamera Museum expressed its gratitude to «Yarkiy Mir» company and «Petronivs» Publishers for their assistance in bringing the project to fruition.
