Exhibition “Ainu Culture as Viewed from Russia ― From collections of Peter the Great Museum of Anthropology and Ethnography (Kunstkamera) of Russian Academy of Sciences”
Exhibition “Ainu Culture as Viewed from Russia ― From collections of Peter the Great Museum of Anthropology and Ethnography (Kunstkamera) of Russian Academy of Sciences” opens in the exhibition halls of Otaru Museum (Otaru, Japan) on October 11, 2013. The first venue of the exhibition will last till November 25, 2013. From December 10, 2013 to February 16, 2013 visitors of Kyushu National Museum (Dazaifu, Japan) will also acquaint with the exhibition.
Due to almost 200-year efforts of Russian scholars, military men, cultural figures MAE managed to collect extensive ethnographical materials which give a holistic notion about Ainu culture. Museum presents at the exhibition 184 items from the collections received from outstanding researchers and collectors I.G. Voznesenskii, L.I. Schrenck, K.N. Possiet, I.L. Polyakov, B.O. Pilsudskiy, L.Y. Shternberg, A.V. Grigoryev.
Curators of the exhibition from the side of MAE are research fellow of the Department of East and Southeast Asia Dr. Andrey M. Sokolov and Head of the department of registration and storage Nadezhda V. Maykova.
