According to the articles of the Peter the Great Museum of Anthropology and Ethnography (Kunstkamera), Russian Academy of Sciences, the research branches are as follows below:

  • Ethnogenetic processes and ethnic cultures, comprehensive studies of the formation and development of ancient and modern ethnoses and cultures, material and spiritual culture, ethno-social organization, contemporary ethnic and ethno-social processes, historical and cultural interaction among the peoples of the world;
  • Human anthropology, the study of human evolution, a comprehensive study of the problems of ethnogenesis and the formation of ancient and modern anthropological types and communities, the methodology of anthropological research of the ancient and modern world population;
  • Processes of changes in ancient material culture, ancient technologies and techniques, characteristics of ancient cultural and social behavior;
  • Languages ​​in the ethnic culture of the peoples of the world, the problems of the theory and historical development of the languages ​​of the world, ethnolinguistic studies;
  • Studying and preserving the historical and cultural heritage, the history of Russian science, the history of the oldest Russian museum - the Kunstkamera,  M.V. Lomonosov’s work
