My Eurasia
The My Eurasia exhibition
was arranged under the VI Congress of Ethnographers and Anthropologists of
Russia. The photo exhibition shows the field ethnographical surveys organized by
the specialists of the Peter the Great Museum of Anthropology and Ethnography
(Kunstkamera) at the beginning of the III millennium. These academic expeditions
were conducted within the Programme of Fundamental Research of the Russian
Academy of Sciences Presidium "Ethno-cultural Interaction in Eurasia".
The newest materials on
visual anthropology gathered by ethnographers through the latest several years
are summarized into 13 photo collages. The annotations tell about culture of 15
peoples of Siberia, Caucasus, Central Asia. Special attention is paid to peoples
of West Siberia, Buriatia, Dagestan, Ingushetia, Abkhazia, Tadzikistan,
Uzbekistan.
The materials presented at
the exhibition may be, with certainty, referred as the unique ones. Many of the
exhibitions were carried out in distant and difficult to access spots of
Eurasia. The researchers sought to register the whole variety of contemporary
folk culture. The photos show the "infant universe" of traditional cultures,
household annual cycle, meal making, rituals of peoples of Eurasia.
Field surveys continue the
traditions established by prominent scientists - ethnographers, archeologists,
anthropologists, etc. who worked in the Museum. The collections gathered by them
are aimed to study ethnos of Eurasia continent and to propagate knowledge on
original cultures.
The photo pictures would
enrich the Museum's vast collections of illustrative material.
