“The older it is, the finer the work, especially with regard to ivory carvings. This piece of work judging by the dolls which I have collected is in very good condition if one takes into account that it has belonged to many different people. But today it would be difficult to find a person who could make something of this quality.” (Lisianskii 1947: 186)
