The staff members of the MAE (Kunstkamera) RAS were presented with the state awards of Mongolia

On September 27, at the representative office of the Honorary Consul of Mongolia in St. Petersburg, a solemn presentation of Mongolian state awards to the citizens of St. Petersburg who made a significant contribution to the development and strengthening of good-neighborly relations between Mongolia and Russia took place. The awards were presented by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Mongolia to the Russian Federation Dulamsuren Davaa. Among the awardees were representatives of cultural and scientific institutions of St. Petersburg, including the staff of the MAE (Kunstkamera) of the Russian Academy of Sciences: Director of the Museum Andrei Golovnev was awarded “The Order of the Polar Star”, the "Friendship" medals were presented to the Chief curator of the funds of the MAE RAS Natalya Kopaneva and a researcher at the MAE RAS Dmitry Ivanov.

Director of the State Hermitage Museum Mikhail Piotrovsky, who was awarded “The Order of the Polar Star”, said: “We have our own “little Mongolia” in the center of St. Petersburg: the Hermitage, the Kunstkamera, the Institute of Oriental Manuscripts. We are very pleased and proud to be able to preserve and present the treasures of Mongolian culture to the world. All our activities in this direction are an example of fruitful and constant interaction between higher educational and cultural institutions of Russia and Mongolia. And there are many more interesting projects ahead”. Honorary Consul of Mongolia in St. Petersburg Vasily Shestakov congratulated the awardees and expressed his conviction in strengthening and expanding cultural ties between Mongolia and Russia.

It is noteworthy that an important event in strengthening bilateral cultural relations between Russia and Mongolia was a temporary photo exhibition "80 years to the Victory in the battles on the Khalkhin-gol River" held at the MAE (Kunstkamera) RAS  in June-November 2019. The exhibition presented the events and heroes of the bloody military conflict during which the Mongolian and Soviet troops together opposed the invasion of the Japanese army into Mongolia. Unique photographs from the collections of our museum, on the one side, and from the collections of the Institute of History and Archeology of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences, on the other, were taken by photographers of the Scientific Committee of the Mongolian People's Republic and correspondents of the Soviet news agency TASS. The exhibition was supplemented by footage taken during joint expeditions of the MAE RAS and the Institute of History and Archeology of the MAS. During one of such expeditions to the eastern regions of Mongolia, an employee of the MAE RAS Dmitry Ivanov visited the battle sites on the Khalkhin-gol River, observed how carefully the memory of these events was preserved, and took several photographs of memorials at the sites of fierce battles. The opening of the exhibition was attended by Deputy Prime Minister of Mongolia Ö. Enkhtüvshin, Deputy Minister of Education, Culture, Science and Sports G. Ganbayar and Director of the Institute of History and Archeology of the MAS Academician S. Chuluun.
