China
The Chinese collection is among the earliest and most complete ethnographic collections of the museum. The diverse agricultural tools are particularly interesting. Many of them embody major discoveries of mankind, making it possible to develop agriculture into a highly productive industry.
The museum is proud of the collections of art works from the 18th–19th centuries and the collection of Chinese porcelain. Thanks to the mastery and imagination of artists, the surface of the porcelain provides a rich natural world in all the complexity of its symbolic meanings. Chinese masters achieve perfection in carving ivory, lacquer, stone and wood. There are wonderful items in the technique of plique-a-jour.
The collections of clothes shows the features of costumes of different social groups of Chinese society, and the peoples of multi-ethnic China.
Items of religion and burial rites are widely represented, giving an idea of the diversity of religious teachings of the people of this country.
