Visit to the Museum of the Vice Consul of the Embassy of the Republic of the Philippines Nonito S. Cabrera

On Monday, July 3, 2023, MAE (Kunstkamera) RAS was visited by Vice Consul of the Embassy of the Republic of the Philippines Nonito S. Cabrera. At the meeting with Director of the MAE RAS Andrei Golovnev, he, together with the head of the Department of Ethnography of Australia, Oceania and Indonesia of the MAE RAS Maria , discussed the prospects for cooperation between the Embassy and the Museum of Anthropology and Ethnography. The topics of cultural agreements, expeditions and publications were touched upon.

The meeting discussed, among other things, the possibility of holding a second Russian-Philippine conference in St. Petersburg. In 2009, Maria Stanyukovich initiated the first international Russian-Philippine conference in St. Petersburg, which was held by the MAE RAS with the support of the Embassy and Consulate of the Republic of the Philippines. Following the results of the conference in 2011, a compilation of abstracts and other materials “Pilipinas muna! Philippines first!” was released. The meeting also discussed the prospects for cooperation between the MAE RAS and scientific and museum centers of the Republic of the Philippines, joint publications, and issues of recreating exhibitions on the Philippines, Indonesia, Australia and Oceania, demonstrating the rich collections of our museum.

After the meeting with Director, Nonito S. Cabrera got acquainted with the museum exhibitions. The excursion for the guest was conducted by Ksenia Maretina, leading specialist in international relations of the MAE RAS. The Vice Consul was especially interested in the Indonesian and Indian exhibitions of the museum.
